During the season (15 July to 15 Oct only), humpback whales visit Rurutu on their yearly migration from Antarctica to our warmer waters, taking advantage of the calm and lack of predators for reproduction. The clear waters around Rurutu allow a spectacular encounter with these impressive mammals. It is not unusual to sight a mother-whale tenderly playing with her baby calf.
